Prime Minister Kurti: We continue as the incumbent government towards the new parliamentary elections

The head of the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), Albin Kurti, has announced that the government proposed by him cannot start the new mandate, after failing to get the necessary votes in the Assembly. As a result, LVV will continue as the incumbent government “towards new parliamentary elections”.

During the voting session, the proposed government cabinet “Kurti 3” received 56 votes in favor, against 52 votes against and 4 abstentions, thus remaining below the threshold necessary to be formed.

Mayor Kurti thanked the supporting deputies and citizens for their support, but confirmed that the voting result prevents the start of the new mandate.

“I thank all the deputies who supported the proposal for the new government cabinet and the citizens for their support. Since 56 votes were FOR, 52 AGAINST and 4 ABSTENTIONS, our new mandate cannot begin yet. In the meantime, we continue as the government in office towards new parliamentary elections”. writes Kurti on social networks.

The united opposition against the new mandate

The failure of the vote was expected, as the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) had previously announced their unwavering stance against cooperation with the Vetëvendosje Movement.

After this result, attention turns to the Presidency. It is expected that President Vjosa Osmani will call the political parties for consultative meetings within the constitutional deadlines.
