The Democratic Party of Kosovo has again asked the chairman of the constitutive session, Avni Dehari, that the Assembly session continue tomorrow, August 18, at 11:00.
In a letter signed by the deputy of the PDK, Vlora Çitaku, it is stated that the chairman must fulfill the constitutional and procedural obligations to continue the process of constitution of the Assembly.
PDK argues that the non-constitution of the Assembly within the set deadline has created, according to it, a serious situation of violation of the Constitution and non-respect of the decisions of the Constitutional Court.
“Relying on Article 9 of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, on behalf of the deputies of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, we ask you to fulfill your constitutional and procedural obligation and, on August 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., call the continuation of the constitutional session,” the letter reads.
PDK also says that the chairman’s responsibility is to enable the session to proceed until the end of the process and that decision-making should not be based on political considerations.
In addition to the request for the continuation of the session, PDK has continued today, August 17, its action in front of the facility of the Government of Kosovo.
Deputy Eliza Hoxha said that through this action they intend to call on the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, to return to the Assembly and contribute to the completion of the constitution process.
According to Hoxha, Kurti should propose the candidate for the Speaker of the Assembly and create the possibility for the functionalization of the institutions resulting from the June 7 elections.
“Kurti must understand that, instead of sabotaging the Assembly, he must come there and create opportunities to constitute the Assembly. That is his primary job that he must do as the winner of the last elections: propose the name and move forward in the establishment of institutions,” she said.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the constitutive session, Avni Dehari, has called for dialogue and agreement between political parties.
Dehari warned that the continuation of the session without a political agreement could increase tensions and the risk of clashes within the Assembly.
The Assembly of Kosovo continues to remain unconstitutional after the June 7 elections. The MPs have taken the oath, but the process has stalled in the election of the Speaker of the Assembly.
