Ohrid: The pearl of the Balkans is ready for tourism season

One of the most important tourism centers of Northern Macedonia, Ohrid, which is described as the “pearl of the country”, completed its preparations for the tourism season with the approach of the summer season.

Ohri, the small city of the Balkans, which is one of the most popular tourism centers of the Balkans in recent years, is famous for its pearls obtained from the Emerald Green Lake.

Ohri, which has a population of approximately 40 thousand in the southwest of the country, offers different activities in tourists of all ages with its narrow streets with stone, historical houses and the sea.

Ohrid, the city, where the multiple ethnic structure of Northern Macedonia and different religions live in peace, is also home to historical mosques and churches.

Ohri, where the houses established around the lake, the sunrise and sunset of the sun, dance with lake waters, are described as the pearl of both the country and the Balkans.

Ohri, which offers familiar peace to Turkish visitors with its architecture with traces of the Ottoman Empire, shines like a pearl in the Balkans with its historical texture in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

While the boats in Lake Ohrid slide quietly as if they were floating in the sky, cafes and restaurants on the shore offer different tastes to tourists who want to start the day in peace.

The folk legend of 365 churches representing every day of the year reflects the rich and historical heritage of the city.

Aziz John’s Church (Sveti Jovan Kaneo) stands out as one of the most iconic and historical buildings of the country and the city.

The church, which is considered to have been built in the 13th century, has features of the early Christian period, offers a postcard image with Lake Ohrid in the background.

Among the Ottoman mosques in the old bazaar of Ohrid are the Ohri Ali Pasha Mosque, which was restored by the General Directorate of Foundations and opened for worship in 2019.

Ohri Ali Pasha Mosque was built in 1573 by Süleyman Pasha, and in 1823, Belgrade was repaired by Ali Pasha of Maraşlı. The minaret of the mosque registered to the Grand Vizier Ali Pasha Mosque Foundation was destroyed in 1912 during the Balkan Wars.
