The meeting between the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo, developed in the framework of efforts to find an agreement for the election of the new president of Kosovo, has ended.
After the end of the meeting, the head of the LVV, Albin Kurti, declared that the talks have marked a new step, since for the first time specific names for the post of president were also discussed.
“The discussion was open, honest, serious. The talks will continue because the trust has increased and it is the first time we have discussed with and about specific names”, stated Kurti.
Kurti emphasized that the names discussed will remain confidential until an agreement is reached.
“We have to protect it, we have to protect the confidentiality of the internal talks”, he said, adding that the people discussed were not contacted in advance to get their confirmation if they would accept the candidacy.
Kurti hinted that the parties aim for an agreement as soon as possible.
“It is not a matter of months when we have to get along. It is a matter of weeks and we would like it to be a matter of days. But communication is not interrupted, the meetings will continue”, he said.
Kurti did not reveal either the number or the identity of the candidates discussed, but said that all the proposals presented to the table were in accordance with the agreed criteria.
“All of them are good personalities, all of them are very good, but we have to choose the one that is excellent”, he declared.
Speaking about the political situation in Kosovo, Kurti said that the goal of the negotiations is to reach a political agreement that would enable the election of the president and avoid going to new elections.
“We are not waiting, we are working day and night to reach a political agreement”, Kurti said.
The meeting between the two political forces takes place at a time when efforts continue in Kosovo to find a political solution and to avoid new early elections.
