Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, during his stay in the United States, has explained that Washington’s decision to suspend the planned strategic dialogue with Kosovo, who, according to him, “It relates to government actions in closing Serbian illegal structures in the north of the country.”
In a conversation, Kurti said that he could not compromise with the rule of law in the north, although this has caused obstacles in diplomacy with the main ally, the US.
“The reason for the suspension of the planned strategic dialogue is due to the rule of law in northern Kosovo, which turned out to be against illegal Serbian structures and here I cannot compromise. Albin Kurti.
He explained that the Kosovo-US relationship is three-dimensional (protection, development, diplomacy) and that problems exist only in the diplomacy.
According to him, the obstacles come from the United States’ interest in detaching Serbia from Russia’s influence.
“The US considers it very important to withdraw Serbia from the Eastern hemisphere because Serbia is closely linked to Moscow. And we, being unwavering in the rule of law, democracy, state sovereignty and territorial integrity, some US politicians and diplomats estimate that we are not helping the US break away from the Russian Federation,” Kurti said, adding: “But, honestly, this should not be my problem.”
The Prime Minister in office stressed that he refuses to be like his predecessors to tolerate parallel institutions, emphasizing the determination to enforce the law throughout the territory, despite international criticism.
“I am not a prime minister who tells the Kosovo Police not to arrest a Serbian criminal seized in flagrance because the act may be convicted by Brussels and Washington,” he said.
Kurti described himself as a leader who looks extreme only compared to others: “I am normal, but I look extreme. This is because of my ancestors who have not been normal.”
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Kosovo justified the suspension of strategic dialogue on September 12 with the actions of the Kurti government they have “Increase tensions and instability”, limiting cooperation on common priorities.
Kurti insisted that between Kosovo and the US there are differences only in “Tactics and Actions” and not in values or principles, repeating that “We are not broken with America.”
Recent actions in the north include the suspension of the work of the Fund for Health Insurance and the Invalid and Pension, which worked under the Serbian system.
