Kurti seeks cooperation for the president, AAK: LVV is waiting for Osmani to leave to reveal the plans for the process

“The will of the people is not undone by decrees.” This is how the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, spoke about the Constitutional Court’s overturning of President Vjosa Osmani’s decree on the dissolution of the Assembly.

“The dissolution of the Assembly is not an instrument to overcome political difficulties and above all it has been confirmed and proved by the Constitutional Court that the president cannot dissolve the will of the people even under the pressure of deadlines and constitutional ambiguities,” said Kurti.

Regarding the election of the new head of state, from the floor of the Assembly, he called on the opposition parties for cooperation.

“There have been enough elections and re-elections, now we have to work as much as we can together and not have new blockades that don’t let the old year be in the past. Blockages, traps, traps are not the mindset of development, but stagnation. It’s time to move forward and be on top of the task,” he said.

Before the session, the leader of AAK, Ramush Haradinaj, accused the Vetëvendosje Movement of waiting for the Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, to become the acting president, and then reveal the plans for the issue of the new head of state.

“Seeing that the VV has a plan in time, first of all it is important for them that the speaker of the Assembly is also the acting president, so they are not in a hurry before the 5th, then we will see how they will manage it”, said Haradinaj.

President Vjosa Osmani’s term ends on April 4, and if the new president is not elected by then, it is up to Speaker Haxhiu to exercise her duty. The political parties have not yet reached an agreement on the process, for which they have until April 28. The President of Kosovo is elected with two-thirds of the votes in the first two rounds and with 61 votes in the third round, but for the session to be held in the hall, at least 80 deputies must be present.
