The EU’s special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Peter Sorensen stayed in Pristina where he held a working meeting with the head of the government Albin Kurti.
“The process of integration into the European Union was discussed, including the full alignment of foreign policy with the 27-member bloc as a strategic determination, as well as the commitment and dedication of Kosovo in the fulfillment of reforms. In the context of European integration, the process of membership in the Council of Europe was also discussed,” says the announcement published on the website of the Office of the Prime Minister of Kosovo.
“Kurti and Sorensen also discussed the political current affairs and internal developments,” the announcement underlines without giving details on whether the dialogue with Serbia was also discussed.
EU envoy Sorensen started his visit to Pristina, after he stayed in Belgrade on April 9, where he met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
The normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia remains a condition of the EU for both countries on their European path, but a high-level meeting between the parties has not been held since September 2023, a few days before the Banjska attack, where an armed group of Serbs killed Kosovo Police officer Afrim Bunjaku.
The head of the European Union’s foreign policy, Kaja Kallas, warned in the middle of last month that she is ready to mediate a high-level meeting between Kosovo and Serbia.
Kosovo and Serbia have been holding a dialogue for the normalization of relations, under the mediation of the EU, since 2011.
The parties have reached a number of agreements, including the Ohrid agreement, which has not yet been implemented.
