With 93 votes in favor, none against and no abstentions, the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo has approved the draft law for the ratification of the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania, which enables the realization of cooperation between the two countries for the organization of the Mediterranean Games.
This agreement also received support from the parliamentary groups of opposition parties such as the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.
The Minister of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Blerim Gashani, said that this agreement does not affect the role of Kosovo as a host, but instead strengthens it by showing flexibility and capacity to organize inclusive games.
“The organization of the Mediterranean Games ‘Prishtina 2030’ represents a strategic achievement for the Republic of Kosovo, placing it on the map of major international sporting events and proving the institutional capacity to take on responsibilities of this nature. In this context, the agreement with the Republic of Albania represents a functional and reasonable solution for the organization of navigation disciplines, reflecting the geographical reality and the need for regional cooperation. Given that Kosovo is landlocked, the inclusion of the city of Durrës as a place of development for the sport of sailing is a logical choice and in accordance with international standards for the organization of multisport events. This agreement does not affect Kosovo’s role as host, but instead strengthens it by showing flexibility and capacity to organize comprehensive games in cooperation with strategic partners.“, Gashani emphasized.
MP of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Bylbyl Sokoli, emphasized that with this agreement, Kosovo acts as the host state of the Mediterranean Games ‘Prishtina 2030’.
“With this agreement, Kosovo acts as the host country of the Mediterranean Games ‘Prishtina 2030’, while Albania becomes a partner in the organization of sailing sports in the municipality of Durrës.“, said Sokol.
Arbnore Salihu, deputy of PDK, said that this agreement is extremely important for the organization of these games.
“Knowing the great importance of this agreement for the development of the Mediterranean Games, we as a parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Kosovo support it“, said Salihu.
The draft law also received support from the Democratic League of Kosovo.
“We as the Democratic League of Kosovo support this international agreement between Albania and Kosovo and their organization. Of course, like any other international agreement that is in the interest of the country“, he emphasized.
Meanwhile, AAK deputy, Time Kadrijaj, said that she is happy with such an agreement between Kosovo and Albania.
“We are glad that we finally have an agreement between Kosovo and Albania, knowing that this government has continuously lacked cooperation with the Republic of Albania.“, Kadrijaj said.
