The organization of the 2030 Mediterranean Games in Pristina is being considered as one of the biggest sports and development projects for Kosovo, with a direct impact not only on sports, but also on infrastructure, economy and international image.
Local institutions and international partners have already started preparations and coordination, seeing this event as a unique opportunity for the country to present itself in the global arena and leave a lasting legacy.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Pristina, Përparim Rama, emphasized the importance of commitment and institutional cooperation for the realization of this major project. He pointed out that the organization of the Games requires time, great efforts and, above all, unity between the local, central level and sports institutions, describing this as an opportunity that comes only once in a lifetime and that must be used to witness the progress of the country.
“We are preparing for the organization of the 2030 Mediterranean Games. I think it was important for the whole team to see that this requires a lot of effort, it takes time, but above all it requires unity that we must work together, the local government, the central government, as well as the Olympic Committee, to organize these Games, because they can only come once in our lives. And we must use this opportunity to shine and show how much our country has progressed. Therefore, we will have. always grateful and let’s continue to cooperate, despite the challenges we have with the central government. But the municipality continues to work and will move forward”, emphasized Rama.
Rama made this statement at a ceremony where the Municipality of Pristina and the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Kosovo signed the Memorandum of Understanding in support of the prestigious Chevening scholarships.
On the other hand, the ambassador of the United Kingdom in Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, focused on the importance of international cooperation and the experience that can be gained from organizing similar events.
He emphasized that the meetings with British companies and the exchange of experiences are important for the preparations, while he underlined the potential that Prishtina and Kosovo have to present themselves as a dynamic country, with young people and opportunities for development, emphasizing the long-term legacy that these Games can leave behind.
“We were happy to welcome you, the minister and the president of the Committee in London, as well as to introduce you to some British companies with great experience in organizing similar games. But it was also an opportunity to have discussions about the great potential for Pristina and Kosovo, not only to present ourselves as a dynamic country with young people, talent and opportunities, but also for the legacy that will remain after 2030 from these Games. And I think we still we feel that in London, since 2012. I believe we know that this is, in a way, the real opportunity of these Games here. So let’s keep working on it,” he said.
Otherwise, the preparations for the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games have received a new impetus in the institutional aspect as well. Finally, the Assembly of Kosovo has approved the special law for the organization of the Mediterranean Games, creating the legal basis for financing, infrastructure construction and inter-institutional coordination.
This step is considered key for the success of the project, as it defines the responsibilities of the institutions and guarantees stable state support until 2030.
