The candidate of the VLEN coalition for mayor of the Municipality of Çair, Izet Mejhiti, in a press conference held a few minutes ago, announced his victory for the local elections and congratulated the leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), Ali Ahmet, for the victory in the Municipality of Plasnica.
Mejhiti emphasized that the result in Çair marks a triumph for all Albanians and is a turning point for the political scene, declaring that “a political class has retired”.
“Today, with a full heart, I want to say out loud: the Albanians won and a political class retired,” said Mejhiti, referring to the success of the VLEN coalition in Çair, one of the most important municipalities with an Albanian majority in Skopje.
According to him, Çairi “defended the honor of all Albanians” and the election result reflects the citizens’ will for change.
Mejhiti described the victory as “the triumph of a new political class that brought change and is making it happen”.
He called on his political opponent, Ali Ahmet, to withdraw from politics and “retire”, suggesting that the election results show a political generational change among Albanians in North Macedonia.
Çairi municipality, a traditional stronghold of Albanian voters, has been in the center of attention during the election campaign due to the strong competition between VLEN and DUI.
According to the preliminary data of the State Electoral Commission (SEC), Çairi registered a participation of 35.30% until this afternoon, a figure that shows high interest in the elections in this municipality.
Mejhiti, a well-known political figure and former member of DUI, has built his campaign on promises to improve municipal services, transparency and economic development of Çairi.
On the other hand, Ali Ahmeti, the historical leader of the DUI, has secured victory in the municipality of Plasnica, a rural area with a predominantly Albanian population, where the participation in the elections reached 32.87% until 17:00, according to the SEC.
