Today, the village of Gorozhup of Kosovo is linked to asphalted roads with the village of Pogaj in Albania, in an area where there was once an official border, known for its bloody division between the two communities. The road that joins the two villages is realized in the framework of cross -border cooperation between Albania and Kosovo.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by local authorities and residents of the area, as well as Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Albania’s Ambassador to Pristina, Petrit Malaj, Prefect of Kukes District, Dritan Baji, Mayor Has, Miftar Dauti, and MPs from both Albanian and Kosovo assemblies.
This is an investment of 1m euros by the Government of Kosovo, part of a series of cross -border projects aimed at connecting border areas between the two countries.
In office Prime Minister Albin Kurti described the cross -border route as “crucial artery for free circulation. ”
He emphasized its importance for local residents, as well as for the development of mountain and cultural tourism in both republics.
“This is a small part of the great debt we have towards this community, which has given much to our economic development and national history”Kurti said.
He added that after the end of the Krstec -Pakishte -Zapot road, worth 2.6 million euros, the Gorozhup -Pogaj road, 3.7 kilometers long, is another concrete step towards the physical connection between the two countries.
The Minister of the Environment of the Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Hysen Durmishi, recalled that two years ago the protocol for three roads, Krstec -Pakishte – Zapot, Gorozhup and Dobruna -Blinishte, which are part of this agreement was signed.
Albania’s Ambassador, Petrit Malaj, described the inauguration as the opening of a new chapter for the benefit of the nation.
“We will continue with the common communications between the two governments, to connect our people even more. Blood flows into our seams properly. We are not neighbors, we are a nation”Malaj said.
