“It won’t be good for Hamas and it won’t be good, frankly, for anyone. All hell breaks loose. I don’t have to say more, but that’s the way it is,” Trump said, adding that the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel “should never have happened.”
Trump’s pick for special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said negotiators were “making great progress” on a deal to release the hostages, CNN reported.
In a speech to the incoming president on Tuesday, Witkoff said he “really hopes that by the inauguration we will have some good news to announce on behalf of the president.” Witkoff is returning to Doha, where further negotiations on the Israeli hostages in Gaza are taking place on Wednesday.
“The president, his reputation and what he said drives the negotiations. Hopefully it all works out and we save some lives,” said Witkoff.
“If these hostages are not returned by the time I get into office, all hell will break loose in the Middle East,” Trump reiterated.
He did not specify what exactly he meant by “hell”, even after several questions and requests for clarification.
