Hoti: There is room for a President acceptable to all, LDK ready to contribute

The Democratic League of Kosovo is ready to contribute to solving the institutional deadlock and finding a candidate for President acceptable to all political forces. This is what the deputy of LDK, Avdullah Hoti, said, who said that his party has given up the demand for institutional balance, in order to enable the functioning of the country’s institutions. Hoti said that first the Assembly should be constituted and the Government should be formed, while then the discussion on the election of the President should be opened.

“We have discussed this issue extensively within the structures of the Democratic League of Kosovo and we have come to the conclusion that, in view of the exhaustion of the situation, we should give it the opportunity to move forward with the establishment of the country’s institutions. We have given up our request for a balance of institutions and we have shown our willingness to, at the stage when we come to the discussion for the election of the President, to be constructive in finding a suitable and acceptable solution for the entire political spectrum”, said Hoti.

According to him, the party that came first in the elections, together with its partners, has the necessary votes for the election of the Speaker of the Assembly and the formation of the Government. After that, according to Hoti, there will be 60 days available for discussions about the election of the President.

“The party that came first in the elections has enough votes, together with its partners, to elect the Speaker of the Assembly and the Government and then to open the discussions for the President of the country. We have 60 days to carry out the discussions, if we can reach a candidate that is acceptable to all parties. We as LDK also express our willingness to contribute to that process”, he declared.

Asked if the LDK will participate in the meeting called by the acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, for Tuesday, Hoti said that there will be an official announcement from the party on this matter. Meanwhile, he emphasized that the LDK continues to persistently demand the convening of the constitutive session of the Assembly, arguing that there is no reason for delays.

“We have requested and continue to persistently request the convening of the constitutive session of the Assembly. There is no reason for the delays”, said Hoti while adding that there is room for compromise regarding the election of the head of state.
