The accused was driving a Mercedes-Benz under the influence of alcohol. In the laboratory, they proved that he had 1.89 percent of alcohol in his blood.
“According to the conclusions of an expert opinion from the field of transport and the evaluation of data from the vehicle’s control unit, the man significantly exceeded the maximum permitted speed and did not fully devote himself to driving. In the section with a permitted speed of 90 kilometers per hour, he was moving at a speed of up to around 180 kilometers per hour shortly before the collision,” said police spokeswoman Karolína Macháčková.
In the Rozběřice cadastre, he crashed into a Hyundai Getz car driven by a 25-year-old woman from behind. Her car was thrown into the opposite direction in an uncontrollable skid, where it was hit by a passing Volkswagen Sharan, driven by a 38-year-old woman who was transporting two minor children in the vehicle.
“The 25-year-old Hyundai driver suffered severe, life-threatening injuries, which unfortunately she succumbed to in the hospital the same evening,” the police spokeswoman continued, adding that the woman from the oncoming car suffered light to moderate injuries with hospitalization and subsequent recovery, but without permanent consequences. Both minor children were slightly injured, as was the driver of the Mercedes.
Criminal investigators managed to document the dangerous driving style of the accused before the accident itself through Hradec Králové and along the I/35 road. Among other things, the man was unable to drive, drove out of the lane in some places, crossed the solid line, skidded with the car and repeatedly violated the rules of the road.
The accused is currently being prosecuted at large. “He was detained immediately after the accident and his driver’s license was confiscated. He confesses to his actions, admits guilt, is aware of the consequences of his behavior and expresses regret for the tragic outcome of the traffic accident,” said Macháčková.
