Great operation in Crete/ 48 arrested, among them police officers and military – are charged with drug trafficking and money laundering

An extensive operation of the Greek police is underway from the early hours of Sunday morning in Crete, specifically in Hania and Rethymn, with the aim of hitting a criminal organization that, according to authorities, is involved in illegal activities such as drug trafficking, weapons, extortion and money laundering.

The operation, which is taking place under the presence of 8 judicial officers and in coordination with the Deputy Director of Hani’s security, has so far led to the arrest of 48 people.

According to information, the investigation has been going on for months and began after an incident in which an explosive device aimed at a police officer in January.

In this regard, it was determined that it was decided by cocaine traffickers, with whom the police officer had been dealing with and filed a lawsuit against them.

Among the detainees are a police officer, two members of the Armed Forces and one Air Force military.

According to Greek police, searches seized significant amounts of cannabis and cocaine, as well as firearms, including handguns and fighter rifles, as well as vehicles used for criminal activity.

Investigations continue, while other arrests and further disclosure are expected for the size of this structured criminal organization operating in Crete for years.

Police sources say that during the investigation, electronic equipment is expected to be confiscated, such as computers and cell phones, as well as thorough searches on the arrested apartments to deepen the finding of the group.

What makes the situation even worse is the involvement of uniform staff in the criminal network.

Investigations are at the peak and authorities herald new developments in the coming days.
