The Albanian Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro, Nik Gjeloshaj, reacted after the decision of the Special Court in The Hague against the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
In a reaction published on Facebook, Gjeloshaj described the decision as “extremely unfair”, stressing that it is a decision of the first instance and that, according to him, the judicial process has not ended.
“Today may be a day of mourning for Albanians, but the dignified attitude of the accused gives strength to the Albanian people to bear this pain, with the belief that this terrible judgment will be overturned in the highest instances”, wrote Gjeloshaj.
He expressed his belief that at the end of the process the innocence of the accused will be proven, while he described the KLA’s fight as “self-defense, liberating and just”.
According to Gjeloshaj, the accused have respected the international institutions and have appeared before justice, while now they will continue the legal battle in the relevant instances.
In his reaction, he also mentioned former Croatian general Ante Gotovina, recalling that he was found guilty in the first instance by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, but was later acquitted on appeal.
Gjeloshaj also responded to the debate about a previous statement of his, saying it was taken out of context. He clarified that in that case he had spoken about the respect of the decisions of the international courts by the Albanians.
“We believe until the end; the battle for justice continues”, concluded Gjeloshaj.

Very bad news and an extremely unfair decision!

I never believed that a court decision could be like that and so unfair. This is a first-instance decision and the court process has not ended.
We believe that, until the full completion of the process, the innocence of everyone will be proven.
KLA’s war was self-defense, liberating and just. It was a war for survival, freedom and the state of Kosovo, supported by our Western allies. The aggressor cannot and should not be equated with the one who is forced to defend himself.
Albanians and the accused themselves have respected international institutions. They have neither run away nor hid, but have appeared before justice and will continue their legal battle until the end.
Every Albanian has in his heart the holy war of the KLA and the legendary commander Adem Jashari. Every Albanian believes in their innocence!

Taking a statement of mine out of context and manipulating it is not worth commenting on. The conversation was about respecting the decisions of international courts by the Albanians, in contrast to the attitude of the other side.
I have never believed that international courts can do injustice. Even Ante Gotovina experienced injustice in the first degree, but justice won in the second degree.
