Gashani for the Mediterranean Games: An event that puts Kosovo on the world sports map

With 7 votes in favor and one abstention, the Draft Law on the Mediterranean Games has been sent to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo for the first reading.

In the Commission for Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Blerim Gashani said that the drafting of the draft law for the Mediterranean Games was undertaken within the mandate of the ministry, emphasizing that for the first time in history, Kosovo will be the host of this major sports organization.

Kosovapress writes that he described this bill as an initiative of high public and national interest, adding that the organization of the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games will affect the strengthening of the sports infrastructure, economic development and international promotion of the country. According to him, this project also represents an important investment in the development of young people and the advancement of sports in Kosovo.

“For the first time in its history, Kosovo will be the host of the Mediterranean Games, the largest sports event organized to date in our country. This draft law is of high public and national interest, which, in addition to strengthening the sports infrastructure and economic development, puts Kosovo on the international map as a country that organizes major events, as well as represents an important investment in the development of young people, the advancement of sports and strengthening the image of the state. This law aims to determine the rules and procedures, as well as the duties and responsibilities of state institutions and other entities in relation to the organization and operation of the 21st edition of the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games”, emphasized Gashani.

Gashani announced that the draft law aims to define the rules, procedures and institutional responsibilities for the organization of the 21st edition of these games, including the approval of the use of public funds worth at least 253 million euros.

In this regard, he added that the institutions will be committed to create optimal conditions and ensure full institutional cooperation, with the aim of organizing the Mediterranean Games in 2030 as successfully as possible.

“Through this law, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo will approve the use of public funds for the organization of the Mediterranean Games in the amount of at least 253 million 445 thousand 501 euros. I said the figure precisely. This draft law also regulates the competences of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo, the municipality of Pristina, as well as other municipalities that will fulfill their obligations in relation to the organization of the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030. In accordance with the financial support guaranteed by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo in the candidacy document, the main source of funding for the organization of the Mediterranean Games will be the state budget of the Republic of Kosovo. The Republic of Kosovo, namely the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has priority over sport,” added Gashani.

The voting of this law is expected to take place in the next session of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.
