Election silence in North Macedonia – The sick, the elderly and the prisoners vote

The State Election Commission in North Macedonia has distributed the electoral material to the municipal commissions for the local elections held on Sunday.

In 80 municipalities and the City of Skopje, a total of over 1.8 million people have the right to vote, while the process takes place in 3480 polling stations. There are 309 candidates for mayors and 576 lists of candidates for members of municipal councils in the race.

From Saturday midnight to Sunday at 19:00, when the polling stations close, the political subjects in North Macedonia are in electoral silence.

However, a certain category, which includes the sick, the elderly in care homes, convicts and those in custody, exercises the right to vote from Saturday.

For the first time, over 25,000 young voters who have turned 18 will vote in these elections. The State Electoral Commission has accredited over 1300 foreign and local observers.

During the 20-day electoral campaign for the local elections, which began on September 29 and ended on October 17, the candidates for mayor, including those from the Albanian coalitions VLEN and the National Alliance for Integration, had the opportunity to present their programs to the citizens.
