A serious tragedy has struck the city of Tuzla in Bosnia, where a powerful fire engulfed a nursing home on Tuesday evening. Authorities confirmed that at least 11 people have lost their lives and more than 30 others have been injured.
The fire broke out on the seventh floor of the building, as the flames spread rapidly, trapping many of the elderly inside the rooms. Many of the residents had health problems and could not move on their own. Fire crews immediately arrived at the scene and worked for hours to bring the flames under control.
“With quick intervention, the fire was extinguished and it was prevented from spreading to other parts of the building”, announced the directorate of the nursing home. According to the authorities, among the injured there are firefighters and medical service workers who participated in the rescue. The bodies of the victims have been sent for identification and autopsy, while the injured are receiving treatment at the University Clinical Center of Tuzla.
The mayor of the municipality, Zijad Llugavic, has called an extraordinary meeting to analyze the causes of the event. The Ministry of the Interior announced that investigations will begin as soon as the necessary conditions are created, while they are working to find temporary housing for the residents who were left without a home.
