“We are investigating reports of drone activity near the airport. For security reasons, no planes are taking off or landing now,” the portal quoted the airport’s spokesperson as saying.
Planes that were originally headed for Brussels were redirected by dispatchers to nearby airports in Charleroi and Liège, but also to, for example, Maastricht or Eindhoven.
The newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws reported that witnesses saw at least three drones over the Belgian capital. The aviation authority and the police are now looking for operators of unmanned machines.
