Roughly an hour and a half before the ultimatum expired, in which Trump promised to destroy an entire civilization, the American president agreed to a 14-day ceasefire proposed by Pakistan.
“Based on conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who have asked me to suspend the destructive strike to be launched against Iran tonight, and provided the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to the full, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack on Iran for a period of two weeks. bilateral truce!’ wrote Trump on Truth Social.
He added that the reason is also that the United States has met all of its military goals and is very close to “concluding an agreement on long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East.”
A source from the White House confirmed to the Axios server that the ceasefire will take effect when the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said it had accepted a proposal for a two-week ceasefire. At the same time, she declared that she had achieved victory when she “imposed her ten-point plan” on the United States, according to CNN. Israel also agrees with the proposed ceasefire.
Peace talks will begin on Friday in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. “The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, together with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and other places, with immediate effect,” wrote Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif on the X social network early Wednesday morning.
According to him, both sides showed “remarkable wisdom” by agreeing to a two-week truce. The negotiations in the Pakistani capital should lead to a final agreement on the settlement of “all disputes” and to “sustainable peace”, Sharif added.
Ten point plan
According to the American president, Tehran presented a ten-point plan, which is a good basis for negotiations. According to him, the USA and Iran have agreed on all disputed points, and a final agreement should be concluded within the next two weeks.
“As the president of the United States of America and at the same time as a representative of the countries of the Middle East, I am honored that this long-term problem is coming to a solution,” he added.
The day when Trump’s ultimatum was supposed to expire was marked by heated statements from both sides. As recently as Tuesday afternoon, the US president wrote that “the entire civilization will be destroyed”, however, he indicated that this could still change, as more sensible and moderate representatives of the regime are now in power in Iran.
Meanwhile, Iran has threatened to “plunge the entire Middle East into darkness” if its infrastructure is attacked.
Pakistan, whose Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif mediated talks between Iran and the US, made a great diplomatic effort to extend the time for negotiations. Later in the evening, he indicated that the negotiations were on the right track.
