Germany’s Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, announced that the “Berlin Process Leaders’ Summit”, which aims to strengthen cooperation among the Western Balkan countries and accelerate their integration into the European Union (EU), will be held in Berlin on October 14.
At the end of his one-day visit to Kosovo, Sarrazin made a statement to the press at the International Adem Jashari Airport in the capital Pristina.
Stating that the Berlin Process, which was launched 10 years ago, aims to bring the Western Balkan countries together towards the EU, Sarrazin said, “For this, we need regional cooperation and we need concrete results for all citizens of the Western Balkans. The results, which show that the importance of borders is decreasing, show the importance of carrying out trade and economic development together.”
Announcing that the Berlin Process Leaders’ Summit will be held in Berlin on October 14, Sarrazin emphasized that they want to make an ambitious breakthrough at the Summit.
“For this, we need compromise, sometimes even a willingness to make concessions to reach political agreements that are not easy for Serbia and Kosovo,” Sarrazin said, adding that he will visit all countries in the region next week to achieve concrete results and improve the lives of people in the Western Balkans.
Sarrazin added that he was concerned that there was no readiness yet to make concessions.
The Berlin Process, launched by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2014, aims to strengthen and deepen cooperation among the Western Balkan countries, as well as to accelerate their integration into the EU.
