The head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in a press conference from the blue headquarters, reacted strongly to the arrest of four young Albanians in Belgrade, describing the act as unacceptable and motivated by hatred towards Albanians.
Berisha stated that “First, I want to condemn with the greatest force the arrest of four young Albanians in Belgrade by order of Aleksandër Vucic, the head of the Belgrade criminal organization. Albanian youths have been arrested for the sole fault that one of them has posted on Facebook or Instagram an Albanian flag with the portraits of Ismail Qemali and Isa Boletini. And according to Belgrade authorities, he also said inappropriate words about Serbia.”
He compared this action to the practices of the harshest dictatorships, adding that, “This ugly act equates Aleksandar Vučić with Kim Jong Un, with the Ayatollahs of Tehran and shows unrestrained racism and hatred towards Albanians. I strongly condemn this unprecedented act and demand the immediate release of the young Albanians.“
Berisha called on the international community to react, as he added, “the international community to strongly condemn this act that exceeds all limits, which can only happen in the blackest dictatorships.”
He also accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of remaining silent on this case.
“I condemn the silence of Vucic’s arrest in Tirana, the head of the criminal organization, Edi Rama, towards the act of his boss.”
Berisha emphasized that the four fans did not commit any illegal act.
“The four fans have not committed any act except they have posted on their social network a status with a flag and expressed their opinions about Serbia, which according to Vučić are prohibited on the territory of Serbia. This is unique in the world. This is a shame!”
In conclusion, the leader of the DP warned that the opposition will take concrete steps if the young people are not released.
“I demand the urgent release, otherwise the opposition will take its own steps of powerful protests in front of the representation of Belgrade in Tirana. They should be released immediately!”
