Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Slovak Republic, based in Vienna, Andrej Dapkiunas, informed the State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Marek Eštok about the decision of Minsk to reopen the embassy in Bratislava on Thursday.
According to Slovak diplomacy, this is a signal of gradual warming of mutual relations. The Slovak side described the restoration of the Belarusian mission as “an important prerequisite for the development of practical cooperation”.
“Slovakia is a supporter of open and constructive dialogue while fully respecting the common policy of the European Union towards Belarus. We are ready to assess the possibilities of cooperation in those areas that are not subject to the EU sanctions regime,” said Eštok.
He identified culture, art, sports and education as promising, including the program of Slavic philology at the Belarusian State University, where you can study Slovak.
At the same time, the press department informed that in June 2025, after five years, the Slovak Republic renewed its representation in Belarus at the level of ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary.
The Belarusian embassy in Bratislava was closed at the beginning of last year, its agenda was taken over by the embassy in Vienna. The re-establishment of the Belarusian mission in Slovakia is now expected in the second half of 2026, roughly after a three-year break.
