In the conversation on the Balkans and Edirne, Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu emphasized the historical importance of Edirne.

A talk titled “Balkans and Edirne” was held in Edirne by the Balkan Strategy and Cultural Research Association.

The speaker of the interview held at the Edirne Coordination Office of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities was the 9th and 10th Term Rector of Trakya University and the Head of the Chest Diseases Department of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu attended.

Tabakoğlu said that Edirne is an important city that has hosted different civilizations throughout history.

Stating that Edirne is a city with a strategic location, Tabakoğlu stated that the Ottoman Empire opened to the Balkans through Edirne.

Explaining that Edirne, which was the capital of the Ottoman Empire for nearly a century, continues to have an impact on the Balkans, Tabakoğlu said:

“Edirne is a beautiful Balkan city. We have very important historical and cultural heritage here. It is impossible not to mention Edirne when talking about the Balkans, and it is impossible not to mention the Balkans when talking about Edirne. The Balkans and Edirne are two inseparable elements. Edirne was a capital during the Ottoman period. Istanbul The capital that conquered Turkey and the Balkans. In fact, Edirne has existed as the spiritual capital of the Balkans for 200 years. “Our biggest goal is to be able to emphasize being a capital again, to feel it within ourselves and to keep it alive in Edirne with all its institutions.”
