According to a report by the German police, the biggest centers of crime are the main train stations in Hamburg, as well as in Hanover, Frankfurt am Main, Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Dortmund, Leipzig and Düsseldorf.
As the police have recently been trying to carry out a “security offensive” at the Hamburg train station, the drug scene has moved to the surrounding residential area, writes Bild.
“During the whole day and night, groups of drug addicts gather right in front of our homes and camp on the sidewalk or between parked cars,” designer Birgit Gerstmeier-Halgmann wrote in a letter to the Hamburg administration in September, asking for a remedy. Nothing happened, nothing changed.
“The fence and barbed wire in the kindergarten is a sign of the total failure of local institutions,” added Gerstmeier-Halgmannová. According to her, the situation is only getting worse. “There are attacks on the elderly, women no longer dare to go out on the street in the evening, families with children are moving away,” he says.
Instead of solving the problem, there was only a displacement effect. The station has calmed down, security has increased, but the problem persons have only moved on, claims the chairman of the Civic Association St. Georg and SPD MP Markus Schreiber. The area has the biggest problems with crack and fentanyl users. “They’re running around here like zombies,” he says. He claims that it would be necessary to have many more police officers in the area.
