Athens confirms the downing of the drone by the Patriot system in Saudi Arabia

A drone was shot down in the early hours of the morning of Holy Monday, April 6, 2026, by the Greek Patriot anti-aircraft system based in Saudi Arabia.

The news was confirmed by the General Staff of the Greek National Defense, emphasizing that the action was carried out within the framework of the Kingdom’s international air defense mission.

According to the official announcement, the Patriot Guided Missile Artillery of the Hellenic Forces in Saudi Arabia (ELDYSA), part of the “Integrated Air Missile Defense (IAMD) Concept” international initiative, launched a missile and neutralized the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) target, respecting the rules of engagement in force.

This is another episode of the engagement of Greek forces in the defense of the strategic infrastructure of Saudi Arabia.

Just a few weeks earlier, on March 19, Greek Patriot missiles had shot down two Iranian ballistic missiles, protecting Aramco company facilities and regional security.

The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, had described that day as “significant”, emphasizing that the actions of the Greek Patriot battery protect not only the Saudi infrastructure, but also the standard of living of Greek and European citizens, since the stability of the oil price directly affects their economies.

Greek forces in Saudi Arabia continue their mission as normal, contributing to regional and international security.
