In the Krkonoše Mountains, a stone came loose from the rock, fell 200 meters and hit a tourist

The accident happened in the places where Stará Bucharova cesta intersects with Judeichova cesta.

“At the moment when the hikers were behind the intersection, a large rock came loose from the rock outcrop about 200 meters above them and headed straight for them,” explained Mountain Service spokesman Marek Fryš. “During the fall, he changed direction several times until he hit one of them with full force,” he added.

According to Fryš, the rescue began with an immediate decision on how best and fastest to help the injured tourist. “Mountain rescuers set off towards the victim from two places, from Špindlerův Mlýn and from Peca pod Sněžkou. The air ambulance from Hradec Králové and the crew from Vrchlabí also joined the action,” explained the spokesman.

The tourist was injured in the chest, arm and head and had to be transported to the hospital by air. “They prepared the patient in the undercarriage net for transport in the undercarriage together with the doctor and paramedic. They then transferred him on board and continued to the Hradec Králové University Hospital,” added Fryš.
