According to the authorities, Rebekah Morris suffered serious injuries on the evening of July 9 last year when she was walking her chihuahua in Littlethorpe, central England. According to an inquest into the death, which is taking place in court this week, the woman sent a photo of the pets to her mother with the caption “cowz”. Since then, however, she stopped responding to text messages, so her parents started looking for her – and thanks to the picture, they found her in a field. They immediately called the emergency services, which, despite starting resuscitation, declared death at 11:21 p.m.
“Her injuries corresponded to hoof marks and trampling. In my opinion, the type and location of the injuries in this case indicated a (…) large, heavy animal, for example a cow,” forensic pathologist Michael Biggs said in the report.
When assessing the causes of the incident, he told the jury, among other things, that the 29-year-old woman was injured after being hit by something blunt, had abrasions in the upper part of her chest and hoof prints on her shoulder. According to Biggs, her liver was severely damaged, which led to severe internal bleeding and was the main cause of death.
The called paramedic stated that, based on the initial examination, he concluded that Morrisová had been attacked or strangled. Even though the pathologist proposed a forensic autopsy to rule out another person’s culpability, he emphasized that all the injuries correspond to an incident related to cattle trampling and one cow rather than the entire herd.
