After visits to Bosnia and Serbia, US congressmen, Republican Keith Self and Democrat Suhas Subramanyam arrived in Pristina, where they visited the Bondsteel camp, the largest US military base in the Balkans. The American Embassy in Pristina announced that the delegation met with service members of the KFOR Regional Command-East and the Area Support Group-Balkans.
On Tuesday evening, republican Self met with former president Vjosa Osmani and the chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo Lumir Abdixhiku, who are running on a joint list in the June 7 elections. This Wednesday, the two members of the American Congress meet with the acting prime minister, Albin Kurti, and the acting president, Albulena Haxhiu.
During the visit to the Preševo Valley, the two members of the American Congress House of Representatives emphasized that Belgrade should address the concerns of the Albanians living in the three municipalities in the south of Serbia. “We have seen that there are real problems between Albanians and Serbia, as we have known.
During the visit to Kosovo, we will learn about the Serbian minority there. So, we are visiting both countries to understand how minorities are treated and what their rights are” – declared the republican Self, while his democrat colleague Suhas Subramanyam mentioned the educational system, uneven development and the passivation of addresses that Albanians in Serbia are facing as real problems. “The reality is that Serbia, in order to move forward, must be able to address these issues” – he said.
The two congressmen, in addition to the meetings with the head of the municipality of Bujanovac, Arbër Pajaziti, and that of the municipality of Presheva, Ardita Sinani, also met with the only Albanian deputy in the Serbian parliament, Shaip Kamberi. The latter emphasized that while Belgrade demands high standards for the Serbs in Kosovo, it refuses to apply the same standards to the Albanians in the Presheva Valley.
