The incident was captured by a street camera, the footage of which was provided to the media by the AP press agency. The recording shows how psychology student Juliana Schielová walks with her pet along the wall and steps on a panel that was obviously damaged.
The woman fell into the shaft, while her dog, who was walking close behind, remained above. He had no idea what had happened and was running around the sidewalk confused.
The accident was noticed by a local resident who stopped the car, whose crew helped the injured student up. According to the G1 server, the student suffered numerous bruises, injured her nose and broke her front teeth.
The ambulance took the injured to the hospital, where the patient was examined and spent one night under observation.
The city’s road maintenance office has marked the scene of the accident and restricted access to it until the hatch is replaced. At the same time, he pointed out that the manhole cover was damaged as a result of frequent parking of motor vehicles on the pavement.
“The covers are not designed to withstand the overload caused by the parking of cars. Last year and this year, about 500 hatches were replaced in the city, most of them due to cracks,” said the office in a statement quoted by the RD News server.
