A few days before the start of his tour in the six countries of the Western Balkans, the President of the European Council, António Costa, has conveyed a clear message about the European future of the region, stressing that the moment for the expansion of the European Union is now.
“This week I will visit our six partners in the Western Balkans. My visit to the region sends a clear signal: our commitment to the Western Balkans is real and the possibility of expansion is just as real. The right moment is here. Now is the time to deliver results“,
The President of the European Council will conduct a tour of visits to the six countries of the Western Balkans during the first week of June.
The first stop will be in Sarajevo, while on June 2 he will visit Tirana, where he will meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama, President Bajram Begaj and the students of the Tirana Campus of the College of Europe.
Costa will then continue with meetings in Skopje, Pristina and Belgrade, to conclude the tour on June 5 in Tivat, Montenegro, where he will co-chair the annual EU-Western Balkans Summit.
During the visits, the focus of the discussions with the leaders of the region will be the EU enlargement process, the gradual integration of the Western Balkan countries, regional cooperation, as well as the challenges related to security and stability.
