The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted the United States of America ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, in a meeting, where the focus was on cooperation in the field of security and regional developments.
According to the announcement of the Prime Minister’s Office, Kurti thanked Ambassador Whitaker for the continuous and unwavering support of the USA to Kosovo. He emphasized the importance of close cooperation in the field of defense, including training and capacity building of the Kosovo Security Force.
The Prime Minister assessed that the presence of NATO in Kosovo, in particular that of the United States, remains essential for maintaining peace and security, not only in the country, but also in the region. He underlined that the acceleration of Kosovo’s membership in NATO would be a long-term guarantee for stability in the Balkans.
Speaking about the security situation in the Western Balkans, Kurti described it as fragile, emphasizing that Serbia, with the support of Russia and China, continues to pursue hegemonic policies in the region.
He also mentioned Serbia’s armament and recent military purchases by Russia and China, calling them threats to long-term stability and good neighborliness in the Balkans. In this context, Kurti also mentioned the forward operational bases of Serbia near the border with Kosovo.
