The new attack tank, which took part in large-scale maneuvers, is described by the North Korean media as a key element of the modernization of the country’s armed forces. The maneuvers took place at the training base in Pyongyang. Armored units armed with anti-tank missiles took part in them and also included training to fight against drones and helicopters. The goal was to prepare infantry and tanks for battle, KCNA said.
According to the same source, the new tank boasts advanced fire-on-the-move capabilities and defense systems against missiles and drones.
“We have made great achievements and progress in modernizing our armored vehicle industry,” KCNA quoted Kim Jong-un as saying. He declared that he was “certain that there is no armored vehicle anywhere in the world with such strong defensive capabilities as this tank.”
According to the Reuters agency, Kim was at the maneuvers with his teenage daughter, with whom they rode together in a tank. This is proven by the published photos.
The exercises took place at a time of heightened tension in the region following North Korea’s tests of a new missile system capable of carrying nuclear warheads and joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States.
