The video shows how the gondola broke away, fell on a snowy slope and overturned several times. The accident happened shortly after 11 o’clock, a witness told the Swiss portal 20 minutes.
Strong wind is apparently behind the accident. Despite the fact that the wind reached a speed of up to 80 km/h on the peaks, some lifts in the Titlis area (82 kilometers of pistes) in Engelberg were open.
“It was a shocking sight. It was blowing terribly and suddenly it jerked, the rope bent and the gondola fell. It turned several times after the impact,” said an eyewitness. According to him, the paramedics revived the injured man for 30 minutes.
The other cable car passengers had to evacuate, the event was not finished until 15:00.
A helicopter was deployed in the rescue operation.
