According to the police, the man told his wife what he planned to do. Just before he left their apartment on Saturday afternoon, he stated that he was “going to kill somebody”. The woman called the police, who were unable to find him in time. The attack occurred about an hour after the announcement during the police search.
The man, who was looking for a conflict in the city center, first verbally attacked the driver. Three young men of Afghan origin, who happened to be nearby, confronted him. Later, they entered a local barber shop, where they stayed for a while. But the attacker waited for them and when they came out, he attacked them.
He seriously injured a twenty-four-year-old man with a stab wound to the neck, the other two tried to escape. The 26-year-old stumbled during the escape and the attacker kicked him in the head and then stabbed him in the upper body.
The police arrested the man shortly afterwards. Both victims of the attack were taken to the hospital, where the twenty-six-year-old man succumbed to his injuries. “He and his two friends were such nice people – always friendly and helpful, never aggressive,” the owner of the hair salon where the men went regularly told Kronen Zeitung.
The investigation into the motive is still ongoing. The suspect is currently in custody.
