Osmani dissolved the Assembly, Haxhiu: Unconstitutional decree, I will oppose it

The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has described the decree of President Vjosa Osmani for the distribution of the tenth legislature as unconstitutional and an undermining of the institution of the Assembly.

Haxhiu said that he expects the Constitutional Court to act quickly and take a decision on a temporary measure.

“I expect the Constitutional Court to act in accordance with the sensitivity of the case and quickly take the temporary measure first, because the consequences will be irreparable, she declared.

The Speaker of the Parliament added that if the Assembly is dissolved, its work cannot continue, while only a temporary measure by the Constituent Assembly can change the situation.

“The Assembly was constituted a short time ago after the certification of the results and managed to vote on important international agreements. Many other jobs are waiting, if the Assembly will continue its work,” said Haxhiu.

She described the president’s decision as sudden, hasty and unconstitutional, and emphasized that she will oppose it as Speaker of the Assembly.

“The Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo clearly defines the circumstances in which the Assembly can be dissolved. There is no reason for the president to dissolve the Assembly without passing the 60-day deadline and without failing the election of the president. The Presidency is not over the Assembly of Kosovo,” Haxhiu emphasized.

The President of the Assembly added that no MP should be happy about this decision, as it undermines the work and institution of the Assembly of Kosovo. She called for everyone to allow the Constitutional Court to do its work without influence.

“Current situations require vigilance, attention, speed and professionalism from the Court. It is important for the Court to act professionally and as soon as possible,” said Haxhiu.
