In a special session on the 28th anniversary of the KLA Epic, president Vjosa Osmani praised the sublime sacrifice of Jasharaj.
She mentioned the contribution of the soldiers and the sacrifices that were made on March 5, 6 and 7.
“Today, when we remember the 5th, 6th and 7th of March, we recall the moment when Kosovo decided not to live bowed down. The three days of the Epic are history written with endurance, before which we bow today and will always continue to bow. 58 souls became light for a people. In those days, the crack of guns was not just the sound of gunpowder, but a cry for freedom. It was the dedication that woke up Drenica, Kosovo and the entire nation, but also the conscience of the world.” she expressed.
The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, at the solemn session marking the 28th anniversary of the KLA Epic, spoke about the history of March 5, 6 and 7, 1998. She said that the ordinary house of the Jashari family turned into the center of a confrontation that changed the history of Kosovo.
“In March 1998 in Prekaz, the house of the Jashars was like other houses in Kosovo. An ordinary courtyard, walls erected with great effort. A threshold that opened and closed every day for children who came in and out, women and men who kept the family and the house. At dawn on March 5, numerous Serbian police and military forces cordoned off the village. They occupied positions with armored vehicles and heavy artillery. An entire state apparatus of violence was concentrated in front of the Jashari family. The house was surrounded, the roads were blocked, the traffic stopped. Commander Adem Jashari and all the Jasharis that day knew what day he had come. The house that until yesterday was ordinary turned into the center of a showdown that changed history. In three days of fighting, the entire history of Kosovo passed through the Jashars and their resistance“, emphasized Haxhiu.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, considered it the greatest act of our national history.
“In Prekaz, history was written with fire and blood. The land became the altar of freedom and a family became a national symbol. The figure of the legendary commander-in-chief Adem Jashari, inextricably linked to the fate of his family and fellow soldiers, became the personification of the determination not to accept submission”. Kurt said.
The Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, on the 28th anniversary of the Epic of the Liberation Army of Kosovo, spoke about the sacrifice of Jashari’s family in March 1998, describing it as a moment that gave meaning to the history of Kosovo.
On March 5, 1998, Adem and Hamzë Jashari together with their family were surrounded by Serbian forces in their house in Prekaz. They were wanted by the Serbian police because of some armed actions they had undertaken, as a rebellion against the oppression of the Albanian population by the Yugoslav regime. The historic stand of the Jashari family against the Yugoslav state apparatus lasted three days, on March 5, 6 and 7. During the three-day fighting, Adem and Hamzë Jashari died together with their families, including some children. The youngest, Blerina, Hamza’s daughter was only 7 years old. The massacre of the Jashari family incited mass protests in Kosovo and marked the beginning of the nationwide uprising for freedom. The Kosovo Liberation Army, which appeared publicly a few months ago, turned sporadic actions into organized resistance and a frontal war for the liberation of Kosovo.
