“We are investigating the discovery of a suspicious package that arrived at the ministry building in Vršovická Street by mail. Approximately 400 people were evacuated from the building,” police spokesman Jan Daněk told Novinkám on Tuesday afternoon. In the end, however, it turned out that it was not a dangerous object.
According to Novinek information, the police officers found a clipping of a newspaper article about an elderly ornithologist with the headline “Enthusiast has a unique hobby, he has been sending birdhouses around the world for twenty years” right in the birdhouse.
It is said to be a Czech man who has been making birdhouses as a hobby for two decades in the winter and then sends them to people not only in the Czech Republic, but all over the world. “It is my message of spring,” says this ornithologist in the aforementioned article. According to Novinek’s findings from a reliable source, the package with the booth intended for the minister had no political overtones, but was just a gift.
“It was not a dangerous object. It was a birdhouse that someone had sent by post. The police officers ended the measures on the spot,” the police said at around 4:30 p.m. on the X social network. They evacuated about 400 people from the ministry building.
Ministry spokeswoman Veronika Krejčí stated that the package was indeed addressed to the minister. “The X-ray of the package revealed a large number of nails and metal materials, so the Police of the Czech Republic was immediately called in,” said ČTK Krejčí, adding that the office activated standard security measures and the police took over the package for further investigation.
