University professor and one of the drafters of the Constitution of Kosovo, Arsim Bajrami, has announced his candidacy as president of Kosovo.
“I express my willingness to make myself available to the institutions and the political spectrum and the citizens of the country as one of the consensual candidates for the President of the Republic of Kosovo, with full commitment to national unity, the strengthening of the constitutional order, institutional stability and the completion of the state-building process, in the service of the citizens and the European perspective of the Republic of Kosovo”, he wrote on Facebook.
RTK writes that Bajrami, in an open letter to all heads of political entities, has requested consensual political unity for the election of the President of the Republic of Kosovo.
He has listed the reasons, which according to him, are the basis that pushed him towards candidacy.
“Based on my many years of experience in all the key phases of Kosovo’s state building since 1990, including institutional resistance, the construction of the constitutional order and the decisive processes of political transition; being one of the drafters of all the basic constitutional acts of Kosovo, as well as giving my political, legal and institutional contribution during the liberation war of the Kosovo Liberation Army, in order to realize the right of the people of Kosovo to freedom, self-determination and an independent state…”, he wrote among the reasons, also mentioning the international experience for Kosovo’s freedom in Rambuje and for its independence in the Vienna talks process; recognition of the constitutional and legal system and institutional mechanisms.
Bajrami further wrote that he appreciates the dignified, principled and state-forming attitude of Professor Murat Jashari and the Jashari family, for whom he said that in the spirit of national responsibility and respect for the historical sacrifice of the heroic family, they once again demonstrated high national vigilance.
“You express my readiness for continuous institutional, academic and public engagement in defense of the liberating and just character of the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army, as well as, against any attempt to demonize it or for the selective and discriminatory review of history by the Specialized Chambers, contrary to the basic principles of justice and historical truth”, concludes Bajrami.
