In France, a monthly record was set at 139 stations, in the Alps it was above 20 °C

The high pressure over Europe brings sunny weather to the west of Europe and also very warm air from Africa. Together with it, Saharan dust is also transported at high altitudes.

Temperatures in France and Spain were up to 10 °C higher than usual for the end of February in recent days. In France, in some places the temperature was even 14 or 15 °C higher than the long-term average.

A total of 139 monthly records were recorded in France on February 25. The hottest place was again in the southwest of the country, where it was almost 30 °C already on Tuesday. In the middle, the highest temperatures were measured in Navarrenx (28.7 °C) and in Saint-Gladie (28.2 °C).

The February record was also set in the alpine resort of Chamonix. In the former Olympic city, they measured 21.1 °C, which is exactly one degree more than in 2021.

Records were falling across the country. Even in the north in Normandy, one station had a record 23.1 °C. It was also above 20 °C in Paris and its surroundings.

Record temperatures are also in Spain, for example in Bilbao they measured 27.1 °C for the second day in a row, which is a February record and also the highest winter temperature. Records were already falling in central Spain on Monday.

On Thursday and Friday, records are also expected in Germany, and records on some stations in the Czech Republic are also not ruled out. In the afternoon, temperatures could reach up to 17 °C in Bohemia, in Moravia and Silesia the temperatures will not be so high, they will mostly be around 10 °C.
