After the final speech of the four former KLA leaders before the Kosovo Specialized Chambers in The Hague, Hashim Thaçi’s defense lawyer, Lluka Mishetiç, said that he is optimistic that his client will be released.
“It was a long trial, a long courtroom battle. Our impressions are that we have every reason to be optimistic about a very positive outcome. It’s always unwise to try to predict anything in any court case, because ultimately it all depends on the judges, but from the arguments we’ve heard, both from the prosecution and the defense, we believe we’re right on both the evidence and the law. And as I said, we expect a very good result for our client“, said Mishetic.
The head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, also pleaded not guilty to Hashim Thai, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
“From President Thaçi, Mayor Veseli, Baci Jakup e Rexha, today we heard the voice of our people who fought for survival and freedom. They spoke of our sacrifice, our pain and our truth. No one will be able to relativize this truth. No one will be able to fade it. No one will be able to alienate him. Because no one has the mandate to tarnish the sacrifice of our people. Kosovo awaits justice. Kosovo is waiting for the return of its sons”. Hamza emphasized.
The four former leaders of the KLA held their final statements before the Hague Court where they stated that their only truth is that they are innocent. The Special Prosecutor’s Office has demanded the punishment of each of them with 45 years in prison, as it accuses them of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the last war in Kosovo.
