According to the information compiled from the latest forecasts shared by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the cold wave expected to come over the Balkans and Siberia will affect the country as of Monday. It is estimated that the temperatures, which are above seasonal norms, will drop to around seasonal norms at the weekend and decrease to winter values at the beginning of the week.
TEMPERATURES ARE FALLING ON THE WEEKEND
According to meteorological data, the system, which will start as heavy rain in the Marmara and Aegean regions tomorrow, will turn into sleet and snowfall in the inner parts of Central Anatolia and the Black Sea as of Sunday evening.
As of Monday, cold weather is expected to spread throughout the country; It is predicted that snowfall will be effective in many provinces, especially Ankara, Eskişehir, Bolu and Erzurum.
THERE IS HEAVY SNOW IN ISTANBUL ON MONDAY
While heavy rain is expected in Istanbul over the weekend, it is estimated that the wind will blow from the north (Northern Poyraz) in the form of a storm. It was stated that temperatures will drop to single digits in Istanbul on Monday and heavy snow is expected.

“DON’T PROMISE ANYONE”
Prof. Dr. Mikdat Kadıoğlu, in his post on the social media platform, drew attention to the expected weather change in Istanbul. Pointing to Monday, January 12, Kadıoğlu said, “Do not promise anyone in Istanbul for next Monday. With the appropriate temperature, the rainfall is exactly like snow.”
Although Kadıoğlu stated that the situation was not yet clear for Tuesday, he emphasized that the opportunities of technology should be taken advantage of and advised, “I suggest you consider taking advantage of the blessings of technology and working from home.”

METEOROLOGICAL DATA INDICATES SNOWFALL
According to the 5-day weather forecast published by the General Directorate of Meteorology for Istanbul and its districts, the weather will be as follows:
- “Heavy rain” is expected across the province on Saturday, January 10, and “heavy rain” is expected on Sunday, January 11. Temperatures are expected to remain in the 7-10 degree range on Sunday.
- On Monday, January 12, air temperatures are expected to drop noticeably in almost all of Istanbul and the precipitation will turn into “snowfall”.
- According to estimates, Istanbul Airport, especially the western and northern districts such as Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Beylikdüzü, Çatalca and Silivri; Snowfall will also be effective in central districts such as Kadıköy, Beşiktaş and Üsküdar on Monday.
TEMPERATURES WILL GO BELOW ZERO
According to MGM data, the lowest temperatures are expected to drop to 0 to 2 degrees with snowfall on Monday. Following the rainy system, the weather is expected to be “very cloudy” on Tuesday, January 13, but night temperatures are expected to drop below zero (-1 to -5 degrees) in many districts.
