The murder of Arlinda Zekaj, Kurti requests a report on institutional responsibilities: The case becomes more difficult when there was a failure of the chain of justice

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has asked the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to prepare a detailed report on the possible institutional actions and omissions that preceded the murder of Arlinda Zekaj in Vitomirica, Peja.

During the government meeting, Kurti emphasized that the case is particularly disturbing, since the victim had given warnings about her situation, but according to him, the institutions had not reacted in the right way.

“Justice is the guarantee that the strong will not hurt the weak just because they are like that. But in our Kosovo, and maybe not only in Kosovo, justice unfortunately does not protect the weak, on the contrary, justice has often sided with the strong. Justice in Kosovo continues to be somewhat crooked,” said Kurti.

Kurti stated that the murder of Arlinda Zekaj highlights serious problems in the functioning of the justice system and in the mechanisms that should guarantee the safety of citizens.

“Each murder is a serious crime, but it becomes even more serious when it is clearly seen that there was a systemic chain of omissions from the institutions responsible for security and justice,” said Kurti.

Arlinda Zekaj was killed on October 25 in Vitomirica, Peja. Her brother-in-law, Albert Sylaj, who was arrested in Deçan on the evening of October 27, after two days of searching, is suspected in the case.
