Vangjeli: If the decision was different, Kosovo would go to elections

In the show “Trialog”, moderated by the journalist Alba Alishani, the analyst Lorenc Vangjeli commented on the political developments in Kosovo, focusing on the consequences brought by the decisions of international institutions and their influence on the Albanian political scene.

According to Vangjeli, if the decisions that affected the main figures of the Kosovo war had been different, the political situation in the country could have taken a different course, even leading to new elections.

Vagjeli also criticized the political rivals of the former KLA leaders, saying that some of them saw the judicial process as an opportunity for short-term political gains, without considering the consequences this could bring to society and political stability.

“There were people who rejoiced at that decision, regardless of the shadow it cast over the war itself. It was enough for their political opponent to be behind bars and this was considered a victory“, said Vangjeli.

He emphasized that this attitude was not related to ordinary citizens, but to political rivals who, according to him, failed to understand the long-term effects of such developments.

“I am referring directly to the political rivals, who did not calculate the consequences that such a situation could bring. In politics, one often thinks only about the benefit of the moment“, he declared.

Vangjeli pointed out that figures who are legally considered accused or convicted of serious crimes, in the political and emotional plane, have gained an even greater weight in public opinion.

“If we speak in dry legal language, they are prisoners whom the court considers guilty of very serious crimes. But in reality the opposite has happened. Certain currents and inspirations in Pristina, Tirana and Tetovo have given them an even greater political and symbolic dimension.“, he said.

According to him, politics in the Albanian space continues to be dominated by calculations for power, while there is often a lack of reflection on the consequences of decisions and political clashes.

“Many individuals invest and work only to maintain the citadel of power. However, such events should serve as a lesson for the Albanian political class to think differently and show more maturity“, said Vangjeli.

He emphasized that every political crisis has its end, but warned that the lack of reflection could produce new problems in the future.

“Evil is infinite, but fortunately it has an end. It may be replaced by another evil, as it often has been, but each cycle closes to make way for another.“, concluded Vangjeli.
