The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has congratulated Justina Shiroka-Pula on her election as the president of Kosovo, describing this development as a step towards the country’s institutional stability. Through a post on Facebook, Kurti stated that together with the election of the president, the law with amendments for the Specialized Chambers and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in The Hague was also approved. “The Republic has a new president, Professor Justina Shiroka-Pula, Kosovo has stable institutions“, Kurti wrote.
The Prime Minister has said that the institutions of Kosovo will also work together on the issue of the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who are facing legal proceedings in The Hague.
“We will work together for the success of the appeal of the former leaders of the KLA”stated Kurti while thanking the MPs who participated in the vote, while also expressing special gratitude to the chairman of PDK, Bedri Hamza, for accepting the proposal. “A lot of effort, for the compromise in the end. For the Republic of Kosovo!”Kurti wrote.
The deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo voted at midnight for Justina Shiroka-Pula as president of the Republic of Kosovo. 84 deputies participated in the vote. Shiroka-Pula received 81 votes, thus being elected the new president of Kosovo.
