The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security, Kaja Kallas, has requested progress in the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, reports KosovaPress.
Kallas announced that he met with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. She said that in these meetings she raised the need for the advancement of the normalization process between Pristina and Belgrade.
According to her, progress in the normalization of relations should go parallel to the advancement of both sides on the road to the European Union.
“The agreements reached through the Dialogue facilitated by the EU, in particular the Ohrid Agreement, are binding,” declared Kallas through an article on the X platform.
The head of European diplomacy emphasized that the implementation of the agreements should not be seen as a favor to Brussels.
“Their implementation is not a favor to Brussels, but an obligation to their citizens and to a region that expects normal relations,” she said.
Kallas assured that the European Union will continue its role as an impartial mediator in the dialogue. However, she emphasized that EU mediation cannot replace the political will of the parties.
“Mediation cannot replace the political will in Belgrade and Pristina. It is time to move forward”, concluded Kallas.
