Bekim Sejdiu, the joint candidate proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo, withdrew from the candidacy for president of the Republic of Kosovo.
“My candidacy failed to secure the necessary support in the Assembly.” With this argument, Bekim Sejdiu announced the decision that he will no longer be a candidate for president of Kosovo.
“In the circumstances created, characterized by the lack of necessary parliamentary support and by the deviation of the entire process in the vortex of internal political dynamics and clashes, I have decided to withdraw from the candidacy for President of the Republic of Kosovo”, he said.
He repeated that he agreed to be a candidate for President in order to unblock the institutional impasse.
“I believed that the parliamentary political parties and the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo would find strength to overcome political divisions or any other interest, to give the country stable institutions in these difficult and challenging times”, said Sejdiu.
Sejdiu also left a piece of advice for his country’s politics.
“Kosovo and its citizens do not need political drama and deepening of polarization, but prudence and unity in order to strengthen our state. I sincerely hope that the political parties will find a way out of this vicious circle”, he said.
Bekim Sejdiu was the joint proposal of the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo, while he informed that he communicated the decision to the leaders of the two parties.
