American Congressman Keith Self expressed concern that political biases may influence the decision-making of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague against the former leaders of the KLA. “A constant theme emerging from The Hague seems to be allowing political biases to influence its decisions.
I hope that such a bias will not appear this week, when the decision is taken in the trial against Hashim Thaçi and 3 and three other Albanians, who fought for independence after years of Serbian oppression” – Self wrote on Platform X. “The Balkans is a powder keg in a region where oppressive regimes want nothing more than to fuel the flames of division, instead of working towards reconciliation”, he warned.
Keith Self is a Republican US congressman from Texas and chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe in the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He served 25 years in the US Army and has experience with security issues in the Balkans. The reaction of the American congressman, Keith Self, comes just one day before the announcement of the verdict of the Specialized Chambers in The Hague against the former leaders of the KLA Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
In April, the Republican congressman presented a resolution in support of Kosovo’s integration into NATO, while during the summer he made visits to Kosovo and the Presheva Valley, where he got to know closely the respect for the rights of Albanians in Serbia.
