The organization of the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030” remains one of the biggest sports and state projects that Kosovo has ever undertaken. However, the delays in the realization of the sports infrastructure and concerns about the dynamics of the works have raised the alarm among the sports leaders.
The President of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, Ismet Krasniqi, used a strong comparison to describe the consequences that would bring a failure in the organization of the Mediterranean Games, calling it a heavy blow to the state and sport of Kosovo.
“I don’t know what word you find in failure because it is very big. I can say that if we take away half of Kosovo’s independence, the failure is very big, I hope it doesn’t come to failure because this failure shouldn’t even happen. We have to work 24 hours a day not to come to failure because if we fail in the Mediterranean Games, then all the sports in Kosovo fail because there is no more confidence to give Kosovo to other organizations. Maybe you have seen it the moment when we got the Mediterranean Games in Kosovo, how many federations have benefited with organizations, completely, because now they have seen that Kosovo has got the Mediterranean Games, it is a very big deal, many countries have never got them, even countries close to us here have never had the Mediterranean Games”. emphasized Krasniqi.
The President of the Kosovo Basketball Federation, Arben Fetahu, said that the concern about the progress of the preparations is shared by the entire sports community, but he expressed optimism that with institutional commitment the project can be successfully realized.
Meanwhile, the president of the Handball Federation of Kosovo, Edi Kolgeci, estimated that the time to act is running out, asking for immediate mobilization to prove that Kosovo is ready to organize this major event.
The IOC, sports federations and state institutions have repeatedly emphasized that the success of the Mediterranean Games is not only a matter of organization, but a historic opportunity for the development of sports, the improvement of infrastructure and the strengthening of Kosovo’s position in the international arena.
